Dear Friend,

Thanks to your support, the United Macedonia Diaspora (UMD) has moved to the forefront of a world-wide effort to secure Macedonia's freedom, democracy, and prosperity. Without our members, friends, and volunteers, this could not have been accomplished.

However, there is much more work to be done. Consider what we still face:

• Two virulently anti-Macedonian resolutions before the U.S. Congress
• Stubborn opposition to Macedonia’s NATO and EU membership by Greece
• Continued non-recognition of Macedonia’s constitutional name by Australia, France and others
• Violent and systematic discrimination against Macedonian minorities, particularly in Greece and Bulgaria

As far as we have come in the last 20 years, the struggle is far from over.

The UMD's goal is to establish a permanent office in Washington, D.C. with full-time staff to handle its operations. We need to educate policymakers in the international community. We need to reveal the truth about Macedonia before the eyes of the world.

Now is the time to make a difference with a permanent office in the US capital. Those who oppose the UMD’s objectives already have such offices, with staff working full-time to push the anti-Macedonian agenda. It is imperative that we establish the same professional presence on behalf of Macedonia.

To this end, we have set a goal of raising $20,000 by midnight on October 21st. This amount is a portion of what we need to establish a permanent office in Washington -- so we need your help to put us over the top in the next 15 days.

Your contribution will be used to:

• rent office space
• pay a professional staff
• cover the printing costs for the UMD Quarterly, brochures, and other materials
• purchase books such as Human Rights Watch report Denying Human Rights and Ethnic Identity: the Macedonians of Greece for free distribution to policymakers and journalists
• cover P.O. Box, mailing and general office costs

On the other hand, your contributions will NOT be used to fund the positions held by UMD Founders/Board Members, as they are all volunteers.

As you can imagine, the capability of a volunteer-only organization is limited; limited in ways that our political opponents are not.

Pledging only takes a few minutes and you will not be charged if UMD does not meet its goal.

Once our goal is reached, all donors who are not yet UMD Members will receive a complimentary 1 year membership to the UMD and a subscription to UMD Quarterly.

Our ancestors fought for a free and independent Macedonia and for the freedom of the Macedonian people. Honor that sacrifice today. Help the UMD continue that struggle into the 21st century.

Благодарејќи на вашата помош Обединетата Македонска Дијаспора напредува во сеопфатните напори ширум светот насочени кон обезбедувањето на слободата, демократијата и просперитетот на Република Македонија. Промислете со што се соочуваме:

 Две навредливи и пакосни анти-македонски резолуции во Американскиот Конгрес
 Тврдоглаво грчко противење на македонското членство во НАТО и ЕУ
 Продолжено непризнавање на македонското уставно име од страна на Австралија, Франција и други клучни држави

Иако имаме победено многу битки во изминатите неколку години, борбата е далеку од завршена.

Целта на ОМД е да се отвори постојана канцеларија во Вашингтон каде ќе биде вработен редовен кадар за вршење секојдневни активности. Ние треба да ги едуцираме креаторите на политиката (policymakers) во меѓународната заедница. Треба пред очите на светот да ја обелодениме вистината за македонските прашања.

Сега е време да дејствуваме и направиме разлика преку основање постојана канцеларија во главниот град на Соединетите Американски Држави. Тие што работат против целите и мисијата на ОМД веќе имаат такви канцеларии каде се вработени редовни платени кадри со цел да ја напредуваат нивната анти-македонска агенда.

Неопходно и многу важно е да се воспостави исто такво професионално македонско присуство во Вашингтон!

Со таа цел си поставивме предизвик да собереме $20,000 американски долари до полноќ на 21 oктомври. Ова е само дел од вкупната сума пари потребни за основање постојана канцеларија во Вашингтон – заради тоа ни e потребна ваша помош да собереме уште повеќе во наредните 15 дена.

With Canada 's recent recognition of Macedonia 's constitutional name, along with the United States , China , and Russia , behind us, our will and determination is stronger than ever before. The United Macedonian Diaspora is working tirelessly to move the Macedonian cause forward and has achieved great results, but as an organization of volunteers our capability is limited, whilst the resources of those who oppose our right to self-determination and our human rights have no limits.

We cannot stress enough the importance of an office and full-time employee in Washington DC . Donate $10, $20, $30 or $100 and help UMD to help all Macedonians overcome the continuing challenges they are faced with on a daily basis. e.g. If as few as 200 individuals donate as little as $100.00 each, UMD will meet its goal and be able to establish a permanent Macedonian presence in Washington, D.C.

We need to work on ensuring full support from the international community for our rightful name, particularly those member-states of NATO and the European Union. UMD is actively working on Australia 's eventual recognition of Macedonia 's constitutional name.
