Eyes for Bagel

Bagel the beagle lives with Kristine and Randy Nesbitt in Round Rock, Texas. He has been very healthy all of his life until several months ago when he went completely blind due to cataracts. Kristine has taken Bagel to an eye specialist to see if there is anything that can be done. The vet said that unfortunately it isn't all that unusual for beagles to have early onset of cataracts due to poor breeding practices. Bagel's life has been significantly affected by not being able to see. Not only can he not go for his much beloved walks and romps at the lake, but he also stumbles and runs into things in the house. This has been extremely difficult for Bagel. Some days he is so frustrated and lost he just sits in the middle of a room and howls. We have taken the preliminary steps to prepare Bagel for surgery. He had a lot of inflammation in his eyes and so has been on medication for the past three months.

Bagel had a check-up last week and the vet said that now time is of the essence. The cataracts are dissolving somewhat, which is a good sign, but also we have to be careful and not let them dissolve too much. What happens then is the eyes react to the new material breaking up and often the retinas will detach. Detached retinas are not correctable and are very painful. Bagel would have to be on steroids for the rest of his life as well as not being able to see.

Kristine, Randy, and Bagel are asking everyone who can to please help fund Bagel's surgery as quickly as possible so we don't have to worry about retina detachment. Bagel will be so much happier and live such a longer life if he can see.

Randy and Kristine are very responsible hardworking adults but have had some major medical expenses themselves in the last few years as well as having already paid over $1000 for Bagel's care in the last four months. We are doing all we can to keep up with our commitments and take care of Bagel.

We are asking you to help us raise $3300 to cover the cost of surgery on both of Bagel's eyes as well as follow up care and medication.

We have twenty-four days to raise this money.
