REMEDY Peru Trip
Payment has been disbursed to the group leader.
We are a medical student organization at the Pritzker School of Medicine dedicated to relieving the health disparities of third world countries. Our focus is to recover and collect medicine and medical supplies in the US and to distribute these goods to needy populations. In doing so we experience and witness the health disparities in these countries, understand these issues in order to ultimately become health advocates by educating our community.
Over the past five years, our REMEDY chapter has organized successful trips to the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Cuba. This year, we plan to build upon previous success and bring our supplies, medications, knowledge, and passion to Huancayo, Peru. We will spend fourteen days volunteering with two non-profit organizations, Mosoq Ayllu and the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC), that work to improve healthcare in this impoverished region. This will be a mutually beneficial process: we will offer the clinics an infusion of supplies and volunteers, while we will have the opportunity to integrate knowledge of the complexities of international healthcare into our medical education. Ultimately, we plan to become advocates for the improvement of healthcare in developing nations such as Peru and to become leaders in the effort to reduce healthcare disparities around the world.
