****UPDATE: May 7, 2008****

First - THANK YOU to everyone who contributed, forwarded this message, prayed for and asked about the puppy. You all raised $500 in less than 24 hours! That is beyond amazing - You are saving a life in a very REAL way. You are both blessing and blessed. We dont have the right words to thank you enough, so we're sending you a huge, grateful (((((((( hug )))))))).

As you will read in the update below, she'll need some serious after care, and mabye some more surgery - and she is still in the hospital fighting the infection. Since the vet bills are still mounting - we ask that you please continue to forward this message. Donations can be made here until the deadline and can always be made directly to the animal hospital. (see below)

The vet says surgery went pretty well for the most part, though her homecoming will be a little delayed.

They were able to stitch up her wounds, but we will need to leave the stitches in for twice as long because the wounds are so deep and there was not a lot of tissue remaining after the dead tissue was removed. She also went abnormally deep under a very light anesthesia. This is likely because of the infection. We don’t know how long she was in the condition in which we found her – so the infection may be more systemic. She’s staying at the animal hospital on I.V. antibiotics for a few more days. We're now looking at Friday or Saturday.

I spoke with the assistant this morning who says she did fine last night - drank all her water - and was eating this morning. Not to be gross - but she hasnt had any problems eliminating - which is a good sign. She is likely to need more surgery. So much of the flesh was necrotic, and it seems that she may have been injured for some time before we found her. However, the vet says she is in good spirits and is licking and giving kisses to everyone she meets. We're very optimistic about a full recovery for her.

This is Janet. The vet tells us she is about 3 or 4 months old. Sunday night we found her tied up outside our building after what can only describe as having been tortured. It literally looks like someone used a rope to try to pull this puppy in half. Pictures are attached. I am sorry for their graphic nature. It is hard for me to look at her without crying.

We found a great caring vet, but reality is, we just cannot afford the bill. Janet had surgery today. Though we have no idea how to pay for the bet bills (she may need more surgeries and she will definitely need lots of after care. When you see this sweet soul you’ll know why we had to get care for her.

Janet’s doctors were able to stitch up her wounds, but we will need to leave the stitches in for twice as long because the wounds are so deep and there was not a lot of tissue remaining after the dead tissue was removed. She also went abnormally deep under a very light anesthesia. This is likely because of the infection. We don’t know how long she was in the condition in which we found her – so the infection may be more systemic. She’s staying at the animal hospital on I.V. antibiotics for a few more days. If all goes well she can come home on Thursday.

We ask that you forward this to anyone and everyone you know who might be able to help Janet.

If you are willing to help defray the costs, please make a pledge – every penny – every prayer – every person helps. This site sets up an automatic minimum - but even $1 or $ 5 will help. If 100 people can spare $5, our goal will be met! Alternatively, checks can be sent directly to Costa Mesa Animal Hospital. They will also take credit cards over the phone. They reference the file by the responsible party for billing. So please be sure to let them know that your donation is for JANET and that NIKKI BROWN is her mommy.

We have one other request - If you make a donation, will you please also send us an address so we can send you a thank you, and pictures of Janet once she is all better.
