Chiapas Indigenous Peoples Volunteer Trip
Hello, this is Teresa and I am currently an Anthropology student in Northern California. My educational pursuits focus on Cultural Resource Management and Latin American studies. I have recently become involved in some organizations in Chiapas (Southern Mexico highlands) which provides education for indigenous people as well as support their ongoing struggles for dignity, democracy, and justice against a long oppressive government rule. I am taking this summer off and would love to be able to spend from June to August helping build schools, homes, anything! for these people. The actual living costs are about $150/month which I will happily provide but the bulk of the cost comes from the 2 flights and bus rides to get me there! (Did you know: Im a student loan impacted mother of two teen aged sons, crazy to take this on but its in my heart! Of course you DID!).

Hi all....thank you for visiting my site! I want you to know that your dollars will go directly to getting me to Mexico City, Tuxtla and San Cristobol and back home for Fall classes in August. Depending how much I raise I will either fly the entire way or fly/bus/taxi it! I will spend 2.5 months learning Spanish and volunteering wherever I am needed. This may range from cooking, cleaning, teaching children basic lessons to data input, filing or correspondence or building a much needed school or basic shelter for a family. This is a terribly poverty stricken area of Chiapas and I want to help however I can! At this point I am just thrilled to have the mere possibility of getting down there to help. This is my passion and this is where I will end up permanently once my education is complete and my sons are finally gone ;) In exchange for a generous donation you will receive from me direct access to a weekly blog that will keep you informed and abreast of the daily happenings in this third world community as they happen. This part of our world is rife with good and evil and I want to help the people of my true heritage continue with the good. I know what is in my heart and I know that I can offer hope and love and positive change to these people. Please help me...
