Getting the "Hit the Dirt 5k" off the ground

On September 16, 2006, Dan O'Neill suffered a severe traumatic brain injury from an accidental four story fall. His long time friend Nick Sayles happened to fall with him and passed away as a result of his injuries, leaving us all in great sadness. Since then, Dan has had an incredible uphill climb. At the time of his injuries, the doctors didn't believe that Dan was going to pull through, and if he did, chances were that he would live his life in a vegetative state. Against all odds, Dan did pull through and less than two years later has made incredible progress. His biggest goal right now is to walk again, and hopefully, eventually run. Unfortunately though, healthcare, supplies, therapy and home care assistance is all rather expensive. Insurance covers some expenses, but not all and come 2009, Dan will be paying for his own insurance, out of his own pocket. Because of this, I have decided to organize a fundraising run for Dan to help offset at least some of the costs. Dan even chose the name for it - the "Hit the Dirt 5k," as "Dirt" has been Dan's nickname ever since he was a little kid. Here is where "fundable.com" comes in. To help get this endeavor off the ground, I am looking to raise about $3,000. This will cover any startup expenses that we can't get donated. And if any of that money is leftover, it will be put towards the funds raised from the race. Every little bit helps, so even if you can only donate $10, we would be eternally grateful.
