I came across this website while I was looking on craigslist for free horse equipment/services that people were willing to donate and thought it was worth a shot at saving the ranch.

My goal is to raise money/services to help save a ranch that's been operating since the 1970's. We still have the old dairy milking barn that was there from the 1950's.

Currently about 200 horses are facing eviction from a small ranch in San Jose, CA. The city has asked the owner of the lease to make substantial improvements, but the current owner is unwilling to do so, and therefore has agreed to let the place be shut down. Myself along with dozens of other horse owners are working with the city of San Jose to see if we can rebuild the ranch. The city has agreed to accept a proposal from our group and possibly give us a chance to stay if we can come up with the funding. Many of these people and families have been at this ranch since the 80's and have based their lives and even jobs around this ranch.

I have already created a financial projection to see if we could possibly save the ranch, and it appears as if we could. All boarders have agreed to the rent increase and to split expenses, but it's obvious that we need more help. About 20 horse owners have agreed to invest in the new barns for the horses. Per horse, it will be at least $1000/stall, but many are willing to invest in the ranch to save it. At this point we have about 60 horses with owners that are commited in putting up the money for the shelters., but, our biggest financial problems are...

1. The city is requesting a water meter be put in. Our estimate was $11,000
2. The demolition and removal of existing structures. $6,000
3. 2500 tons of grade two or better base rock. $25,000
4. Electrical work- Misc arena and stable lights. $5,000
5. Plumbing work- Bring water from meter to the horse shelters. $5,000

At this time we are starting our fundraising goal at $1000 because though this website we only have 25 days to reach our goal.

Enclosed is a picture of one of the horses at the ranch. They are beautiful animals and with the economy the way it is, I have no idea what is going to happen to half of these animals if they shut the ranch down. At this point, we have until August 10, 2008 to come up with the funding, or find new homes for the horses. Any contribution would help, or if you know anyone who could help with their services. We will be getting a picture gallery of horses together so that you can see all the amazing animals you will be helping.

My collection amout is low compared to what we need, but I figured it would be better to have over pledgers than under pledged, and the money will only be funded if we reach the amount. Please pass this link on to friends, family and horse enthusiasts. We also won't be charged if we don't meet our goal, so we can't lose. Check out the faq's page : )

The only benefit I could think of is that people come down and see what they are pledging for, and hop on a horse : )
