a group of people are raising money for a cause.
CARNE , a short horror film in need of backers...
Hi, my name is Brian Cuojoe Tolbert, I'm an up and coming indi-filmmaker here in Los Angeles.
Here's the deal...
I am working on a low budget but potentially high profile short horror film tentatively titled "CARNE" ('Meat'). Since i cannot afford film school, I'm going about breaking into the industry by making movies myself and entering them into festivals.
Set in a future where the lines between the living and the dead have been blurred, a survivor of an 'UNDEAD' attack finds refuge with a man who ends up having a dark purpose of his own.
Before you groan and say 'NOT ANOTHER ZOMBIE FILM', please be assured that the spin I have in store is actually quite unnerving and potent. A worthy entry into the horror genre as a whole.
Some background story on the current project:
"CARNE" was originally supposed to be made for a contest run by George A. Romero himself, where indi filmmakers sent in their short zombie themed movies over MYSPACE for him to view. The lucky chosen films were to appear on the DVD of DIARY OF THE DEAD in the special features. Well due to time constraints and that little drama we call 'life' I was unable to even get it started. The story and its ideas stuck with me though SO here I am asking for your backing.
The film is to be a 'short' short (running time, about 10 to 15 mins), there will be two versions of the film, one in Spanish and one in English, the Spanish version will be the one shopped around to various film festivals both in the states and abroad; the amount of monies involved is to take care of the actors needs (food + drinks) and the supplies including camera rentals, props and the ever important make up effects. (And all that adds up QUICK, especially here in Los Angeles.)
The image above is of a 'promo shot' for the film, pretty much hinting at what the audience will be in store for. Hearkening back to the 70's 'grindhouse' and exploitation cinema made popular by films like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Last House on the Left", "Suspiria" and especially the original 70's "ZOMBIE". The whole intention of CARNE is to be true to the genre and its fans, but also to make a film that non horror fans can appreciate as well.
The main benefit that you as a backer will be the satisfaction of knowing that you're helping out an indi filmmaker in his desire to 'make it' in a predominantly homogenized industry.
:)
And since REALISTICALLY, I know that just a handshake and a grateful puppy dog look wont go far in getting your backing...
ALL BACKERS will have there names as contributers in the final credits, PLUS...
BACKERs THAT CONTRIBUTE $20 will get a copy of the DVD once the film is completed, plus a personal note from me telling you how freekin' awesome you are for helping me out.
:)
Those contributing more that $30 will receive all of the above + an original press kit with whatever goodies that come out of the production, like signed promo photos and the like. Because you'all REALLY ROCK.
:)
