RDR - National Pit Bull Awareness Day - Spay/Neuter Collection

National Pit Bull Awareness Day is October 25, 2008. Not long ago, another rescue group, Bless the Bullys, decided that our wonderful pit bulls should have their own day of celebration. As such, they deemed one day each October as National Pit Bull Awareness Day (NPBAD) and rescues and shelters around the country celebrate with various events and activities honoring the pit bull. Last year, approximately 150 different rescue groups held events in honor of this day and this dog.

This year, Ring Dog Rescue is planning a number of events and activities around town. One of the events is the promotion and offering of free spay/neuter for pit bulls in Henrico County. Prevent-A-Litter, in Carytown, is graciously partnering with us to offer this service. We are targeting the spay/neuter of 20-24 dogs in late October to celebrate this event and in order to fulfill this, we need to raise funds to pay for the cost of the surgeries.

Why are we targeting Henrico?
(1) For one, there are other activities underway targeting the City of Richmond and we want to broaden the scope of spay/neuter efforts to reach the counties, as well.
(2) In 2007, Henrico Animal Control handled 1,666 dogs. Of these dogs, 156 were adopted and 559 were euthanized. The rest were either reclaimed by their owner or transferred to another organization. This fundable.com request is to raise funds which will go DIRECTLY to the spay/neuter of pit bulls in Henrico in conjunction with our NPBAD activities. We will need more than what is collected here, but this will be a great start for us. As with all fundable.com donation requests, unless we meet our goal of $600, no one pays, so feel assured that if you pledge and end up paying, that means we have been successful!!!!
