"This company lets you set up pledge funds to which people contribute. For example, say you want to go in with some people on $800 worth of airline tickets to send your newly married friends on their honeymoon. With Fundable, you set up a group, define a deadline to raise the funds, and people pledge amounts to it, using either credit cards or PayPal."

Fundable has passed a combined 1000 bookmark point on del.icio.us, a social bookmarking web site owned by Yahoo.

"But Dave the White Asian's campaign speaks more eloquently, in the end, to what makes Fundable part of a watershed in contemporary economic history. Like eBay, craigslist.org, and other open online exchanges, Fundable chips away at the role of corporate-size intermediaries, nudging commerce the exchange not only of money and goods but of ideas and sentiments back toward its highly personal roots."

"Raise cash for a shared beach house, a group skydiving trip or a communal margarita machine by creating an all-or-nothing fundraising campaign at fundable.org. Set a economic goal--say, $1,000 to rent a house--and ask pals to contribute. Everyone who wants to pitch in does so through the Website, and if enough do, you're sipping margaritas! If not, everyone gets their money back, and nothing's lost, except maybe an awesome time."
