We’ve been working incredibly hard since Eastern Biotech’s establishment in 2005 and currently sit in a very prosperous position.  Back in 2014, we launched our online diagnostic web portal and mobile app which immediately began serving clients.  It’s already generating a significant amount of revenue for us - which proves the market need for testing that can be coordinated, scheduled, and completed online.  Have a look at a few more great accomplishments we’ve enjoyed:

Product development breakthroughs.  We made our big leap forward in 2007 with the launch of ancestry testing for the first time in the Middle East region. This laid the groundwork for the entire Eastern Biotech network and many more test launches in the years to follow.

Medical partners in place.  This network is the result of dozens of key partnerships with labs and clients around the world.  Partners like Life Length, Ambry Genetics, and Family Tree DNA have been crucial to the expansion of our product line into telomere tests, genetic tests, and more.

Lab established.  In 2013, we founded Eastern Clinical Labs in Dubai - which blends together with Eastern Biotech to execute the vision we have for the Middle East.

Garnering big time notoriety.  Eastern Clinical Labs was accredited with ISO 15189 in 2012.  We’re putting together a nice collection of awards too, including MasterCard’s Small Business of the Year (2012), being ranked 19th in the Dubai SME 100 Business Awards (2011), and many more.

Our vision to provide the full spectrum of preventative healthcare services through technology is well on its way to being realized - but plenty of hard work remains. We see geographic expansion as our best avenue to accomplishing this, and have made it the central focus of our future development plan.  Cities in the Middle East are somewhat small, so expanding into many locations at once will be key to building trust, and scaling our business.  With the IT infrastructure already in place, we’re fully confident in our ability to do this.  Continuous product development is another element of our longer-term future.  Some potential future offerings we are currently considering include an online portal for all wellness products and services, expanding our doctor on-call services, and offering remote consultation for relatively simple problems.

Dr. Faruq Badiuddin, MBBS, FCRS (UK) FICS - Chairman & Managing Direction
Dr Faruq M. Badiuddin, MBBS, FCRS (UK) FICS, is a surgeon and a medical entrepreneur. His career as a surgeon started in Bangalore, India in 1982. He then trained in minimally invasive surgery at the United Kingdom and Ireland and returned to Dubai to set up his practice in 2001 and continues to hold a successful practice in Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery. His interest in genetics was the stimulus to launch his career as a medical entrepreneur. Recognizing a gap in the healthcare sector in the areas of medical diagnostics, he founded his first venture, Eastern Biotech and Life Sciences, to offer some of the most advanced medical diagnostic products on an outsourcing platform. This small niche business was fostered by him to grow over the last 10 years within the UAE and now has a presence in 4 other countries. It now has a laboratory of its own and carries out a whole range of medical tests.  His eminent positions include:

Dr. Mahammad Al-Thahyabat
A Senior Specialist Pathologist with both MOH and DHA licenses, Dr. Al-Thahyabat has over a decade’s worth of experience in both the private and government sectors in the UAE.  After beginning his career as a General Practitioner, he worked his way up into a variety of impressive roles - including serving as Head of Immunology and Hematology at Dubai Hospital.  He’s reached expert levels within all lab departments, and also possesses expertise in diagnostic procedures, serology, and flow cytometry.

Dr. Sanjida Ahmed, Director of Research 
Our research head is a PhD in Cell Biology with over a decade’s worth of experience in healthcare.  He’s got a proven track record of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines, and has been highly proactive in terms of capitalizing on opportunities.  In addition to his research proficiency, Sanjida is also a seasoned business developer, salesperson, and networker.

Ranjini Mohan, Product Manager 
Ranjini, our tech guru, has put together an impressive career working with firms like IntegenX, Life Technologies, and Applied Biosystems.  Her versatile skill set includes proficiency in technology transfer and process integration, product development, process improvements, design, and project management.  She is directly responsible for overseeing the optimal development of the Labonline platform.

Dr. Peter Cruse, MBChB PhD FRCPath FFPath MBA - Advisor
Dr. Cruse is a medical doctor and specialist pathologist who was educated at the Universities of Cape Town, Oxford and London and has postgraduate qualifications in cancer research (PhD), Clinical Histopathology (FRCPath, FFPath) and Business Administration (MBA).  He has over thirty years' experience a senior healthcare manager in academic, public and private sector settings and has founded and sold two successful medical practices in Harley Street, London.  Dr. Cruse has been involved in the design, funding, commissioning and operational management of four new hospitals and ten polyclinics with associated clinical laboratories in five countries (UK, RSA, KSA, UAE and Oman) including leading complex public-private partnerships.  He also has two years' experience as head of healthcare in a Dubai-based private equity firm and has worked as CEO or Executive Director of private or listed healthcare companies in the UK, USA, RSA and UAE.

Jamal Golbahar, BSc, MSc, PhD - Advisor
Dr. Golbahar is a highly motivated clinical scientist capable of delivering a high quality of routine clinical biochemistry, biochemical (Newborn Screening) and molecular genetic services. He is an experienced Biochemist with executive leadership as the Managing Director of Diagnostic Services and Metabolic Laboratory at the Al-Jawhara Centre for Genetic Diagnosis and Research. Dr. Golbahar has diverse academic experience in molecular medicine and biochemistry through his experiences serving as a professor at Arabian Gulf University and at the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences.

David Isaac - Advisor
Mr. David Isaac has more than 30 years of experience as a Senior Healthcare Marketing Executive throughout Africa and the Middle East. He is also the owner of Efadah Medical Consultancy, which specialises in healthcare performance enhancement. David represents the Eastern Brand in the international area especially in the MENA Region.
