HARE+HART is a thriving leather goods company that offers luxury quality women’s handbags and accessories at a fraction of luxury prices. We provide value to our consumers by eliminating the middle-man wholesale margin and passing the savings directly on to our customers.

As women, we know how important having a ‘good’ handbag can be in presenting a professional image of ourselves. But when we were starting out, it was impossible for us and our friends to afford a high-quality handbag and pay our rent. Post-recession, we also see our mentors and women of all generations changing their spending habits and struggling to find a high-quality handbag at a justifiable price.

With HARE+HART, we make the qualities of luxury handbags (top-grade leather, quality craftsmanship and high-end hardware) accessible to all women.

Because we want to know how the products we purchase are made, we provide all production details of every bag we sell. We let our customers know where the bag was assembled and with what materials. We use eco-friendly vegetable tanned leathers and organic linings whenever possible, but we also share all construction information when we do not.

We are honest with our customers because we believe that we share a relationship with them. To us, they are as integral a part ofHARE+HART as we are as the designers.

As women who design a product solely for women and have been mentored and supported by many intelligent women, it is important for us to give back to the female community. We are currently working with a female VP at a leading financial institution to set up a program helping fellow female entrepreneurs.

Instead of eliminating wholesale all together, we are utilizing the wholesale channel as a cost effective marketing tool. We sell to select retailers such as Shopbop.com, Anthropologie and Amazon’s MyHabit with little profit as a means of raising brand awareness and credibility.

Maintaining these wholesale relationships is no cost to us (we even make a tiny profit), and helps us to reach new customers.

HARE+HART first launched in 2010, nearly 5 years ago. Since then we’ve seen tremendous success and growth and have built a strong following of loyal customers. We are continuing this success with the further development of our e-commerce website and online marketing as we transition to a direct-to-consumer model.

Fluent in Spanish, Harrison (HARE) began working in the Argentine wine industry where she honed her skills importing and exporting luxury wines. She also gained valuable marketing experience conducting qualitative market research for brands such as Coca Cola, Unilever and Kraft. She now oversees all of Hare+Hart's production, logistics, sales and co-desings all products. In her free time, Emily enjoys conducting "research" on the best Malbecs and Cote-du-Rhones.

AKA: Jennie Engelhardt, CEO

Engelhardt (HART) comes from the marketing team at Stuart Weitzman, where she became Stuart's go-to indicator of "downtown" style. With many contacts within the fashion industry, she oversees Hare+Hart's marketing, company development and co-designs all products. In her free time, Jennie can be found spending time on the fairway, and a fair amount of time in the rough.
