Bose QuietComfort 700 Wireless Headphones Review
Bose is known for its noise cancellation technology, which can block out the rumble of aircraft engines and other sounds. It also produces a range premium wireless headphones.
The new Bose Sport Earbuds Truly Wireless are sleeker and smaller than the QuietComfort buds, with superior microphones for calls. They're also sweat-resistant and come with a charging case.
Active Noise Cancellation
Bose QuietComfort headphones are known for their superior noise cancellation. However, the company also makes various premium headphones that don't require or offer this feature. Its products typically occupy an expensive price and use premium materials, but they're also light and sweat-proof. They're also comfortable enough to last for long listening sessions.
The flagship 700s are a fantastic example of this. They feature an upgraded eight-microphone system (six for cancelling sound, and two for picking up voices) and 11 customizable ANC modes that let you hear the world or block it completely. They also have the "Conversation Mode", which allows you to temporarily pause the music in order to announce a message or place a phone call.
Bose TruSleeve is another excellent feature. It's a removable ear cover that wraps around your neck and sits on top of your ear to cut down on noise when you are out and out and about. It's available on all QuietComfort products and can be customised using the app to match your ears and lifestyle.
In comparison to our top pick the Sony WH-1000XM5, the 700s offer a better quality microphones for phone calls. This makes them a good option for those who make calls frequently and need to be heard clearly while moving around.
The headphones can be connected to your mobile device using Bluetooth 4.2, and Bose’s proprietary A2DP protocol. They support aptX Adaptive and aptX HD which makes them a great option for audiophiles with sources that support these high-quality wireless codecs. Bose also comes with a 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable for wired listening and they're optimized for Google Assistant and Alexa. The headphones come with a battery lifespan of 20 hours or more and a USB-C charging port on the right earcup.
Sound Quality
Bose is well-known for its noise cancellation technology, which can effectively block out office chatter and the roar of plane engines. But the brand also has earbuds and headphones that have good sound quality as well. All models are compatible with Bose Connect (older models). They provide a range of options that include the ability to adjust the audio including battery monitoring, adjustable controls, and listening modes. They're also compatible with all platforms and are compatible with Apple, Android and Windows devices.
The QuietComfort45 headphones by Bose are the most immersive wireless over-ear headphone. The headphones use Bluetooth 5.1 for multi-point pairing. They also come with an USB-C charging port located on the bottom of each cup. They also have an audio cable with a 3.5mm plug at the other end for wired listening and feature an ANC button on the left earcup. You can set the ANC to three levels through the app and switch on hear-through modes for ambient noises.
They're light for headphones that are designed to be used for long periods of time and come with soft cushions that feel comfortable over the ears. Sound is bright and dynamic and has an impressive bass response that is well-controlled. The treble doesn't sound as crisp as you'd find on top-rated rivals like the Sony WH-1000XM4 or Jabra Elite 85H, but still punchy enough for most music genres.
They also have an excellent microphone that allows hands-free calls and also a voice assistant that does a good job of separating your voice from ambient noise when answering questions. Bose Connect apps and Bose Music allow you to alter audio settings and adjust EQ. However, we've noticed that the Bose voice that informs you of things such as battery status and whether you're connected is a bit robotic, in contrast to the more natural voices of the Sony and Jabra models.
Comfort
Bose headphones are comfortable, whether over-ear or on the go. Bose's headphones are usually well-padded and not too tight on your head. They also come with a balanced sound profile, making them suitable for a diverse range of genres. If you want to tweak the sound, you'll discover that many of the Bose headphones come with a companion application with a graphic EQ to help you tune your music to your preferences.
The Bose QuietComfort45 Wireless over-ear headphones have a stretchy headband, plush earpads and an earband that is soft and flexible. They are among the most comfortable headphones that we've tried. They're extremely light and sweat-resistant, and you can listen for long periods of time without feeling uncomfortable. The earcups are able to rotate around the plastic stems which extend from the headband. This allows you to move them and ensures they seal around your ear.
The Bose QC45s awed us with their noise cancellation capabilities and audio quality. The sound is clear and detailed, with punchy bass, clear mids and clear highs. The headphones have a neutral midrange response, which means voices are reproduced with great clarity. The only issue with these headphones is that they don't support the latest Bluetooth codes, like aptX Adaptive and LDAC, which allows for lossless playback.
The Bose Sport Earbuds are smaller and sleeker than the company's flagship QuietComfort Earbuds, making them ideal for working out and running. They provide up to five-hour battery time, which is sufficient to last through most workout sessions. The buds are waterproof and have built-in microphones to allow voice assistant integration. You can control the buds with the remote included or with the companion app. The app can be used to adjust settings for ANC and Bose's Aware Mode.
Controls
The 700s do not have physical controls on the earcups unlike the majority of Bose's headphones. Instead there's head phones on the front portion of the right earcup that can register swipes and finger taps. Tap twice to play/pause, swipe up and down to change the volume, and swipe forward to skip tracks. A single tap answers calls and the double tap will reject any call that comes in.
The headset also lets users to switch on the mode of "aware," which enables some passthrough of your surroundings. It's a great feature for anyone who wants to be aware of their surroundings while listening to music or making phone calls.
A motion detector turns off your headphones after inactivity. This is a fantastic feature for those who get easily distracted or forget to turn off their headphones. You can change the Auto-Off timer settings on your Bose 700 headphones through the Bose Connect app.
The app allows you to customize the headphones' features including the settings for audio, noise cancelling levels, and the languages used for voice prompts. You can also download updates for your Bose headsets. You may be asked to share some of your personal information in order for this to work however that's normal for this kind of application. It's also where you'll configure your Bluetooth connection preferences, and it also has a a helpful battery reading function that will let you know how much charge is remaining in your headphones. You can download the free Bose Connect app from your iOS device's App Store or Google Play. The app requires that your smartphone or tablet be connected via Bluetooth. Once connected, you'll be able to choose a profile and locate your headset.
Design
Bose has a reputation for comfortable headphones, and most of their models do a great job at keeping the listener's ears safe from ambient noise. Their sound is balanced, and versatile enough to be utilized across genres. They are also extremely portable and durable. This makes them a great choice to take on trips.
A large part of what makes Bose headphones so popular is their noise cancellation. The NCH700s come with 10 levels of noise cancellation which is impressive even at maximum. Six of the eight microphones are put into the headband to help separate voices from background noise. Two of the mics double as noise-rejection sensors to help reduce background hiss and echo during calls.
In contrast to their rivals, Bose headphones tend to have a simple design with just a few buttons on the headband. The left cup has an adjustable noise-cancelling button and the right cup has toggles to power/Bluetooth or launch digital assistants. On the right cup there's a touchscreen that lets you play/pause music, switch tracks and adjust volume using a few simple gestures.
Bose headphones are ideal for use on the move. The majority of models that are worn over and on the ear, have ample padding that ensures an ideal fit. They're also extremely light and portable, making them a great option for trips. Bose's wireless headphones don't block out as much sound as their competitors. This shouldn't be an issue for all, especially since Bose also makes dedicated active noise cancelling earbuds that are designed for exercise (like the QuietComfort Earbuds II Truly Wireless). This lets you monitor your surroundings while still enjoying the convenience of your music.
