Plenty of companies out there are looking to new, unexplored technologies to solve the renewable energy problem. But at Leviathan, we’re focused on improving the solution we already have, and finding ways to make existing wind farms and the 300,000 wind turbines already in operation around the world more efficient and more cost-effective.

Leviathan Energy uses Computational Fluid Dynamics to create models of the relationship between wind flow and turbine geometry, then uses those models to design and build a structure, called a Wind Energizer (TM), that optimizes the turbine’s energy output.

When a Leviathan Wind Energizer is placed between the turbine and the wind, it increases the wind velocity in the plane of the blades, which in turn increases the amount of power that the turbine is able to generate. Because the Wind Energizer makes the velocity at which the wind hits the blades of the turbine more uniform, it also reduces the amount wear on the turbine, substantially reducing maintenance.

The result:

Each turbine retrofitted with the Leviathan Wind Energizer adds 1-2MM kilowatt hours per year to the grid — an output increase of 20-40% in high-speed wind farms, and sometimes over 100% at lower-speed farms.

By reducing the amount of wear on the turbines, the Wind Energizer dramatically reduces the amount of maintenance—and maintenance costs—that turbines require.

By increasing output and reducing maintenance, the Wind Energizer substantially improves the economics of wind energy production. The Wind Energizer pays for itself within 4 years of installation, and allows wind farms to produce more energy more cost effectively — savings that they can pass along to their customers.

Because the Wind Energizer is designed to increase the energy output of wind turbines at any wind speed, it makes millions of new square kilometers available for wind farms in regions that were previously considered unsuitable for the technology.

In 2010, Leviathan received 3rd place at Israel Cleantech Open for the Wind Energizer concept, and in 2012 was granted its first US patent for the principles underlying the Wind Energizer design. He has received the Eureka and Eurogia labels of excellence for other technologies, and another of his aerodynamic technologies was chosen as one of Israel's top 45 technologies by the Jerusalem Science Museum.
