With Marbel, daily commutes have never been this effortless, efficient, and just downright awesome. But that wasn’t always the case for the twenty-first-century, on-the-go city-dweller. 

Although a highly populated metropolis, campus, or neighborhood is a great place to live and work, it can be a frustrating place to get around -- especially for the 65 million people who travel less than 10 miles to reach their destination. Roll out the usual suspects:

With emerging technological advances in intermodal transportation paving the way for a range of alternative rideable technology transportation products -- from electric bikes, skateboards, scooters, Segways, and more -- more and more people are turning to these solutions to meet their "last mile" and short-range travel needs.

While these products seem to have improved upon mobility issues, many still leave riders high and dry in the storage, portability, and functionality departments. Ever try lugging a 28 pound "mini" Segway through a train station? How about maneuvering a 40+ pound electric bike precariously through the elevator at your office? 

That’s where Marbel comes in. Whether it’s commuting to work, running quick errands, getting around campus, or linking up with public transit, Marbel effectively solves modern transportation shortcomings across the board.

We have drastically improved upon everything we learned from 3 years of meticulously designing our signature board from the ground up.  During this time, we’ve developed a range of build options that provide the ultimate performance given any situation. Today, the Marbel Board is feature-packed, providing a ride experience unlike anything else out there, while also giving our riders the freedom to go much further than they ever thought they could.

Superior Design
Our proprietary carbon fiber decks are exceptionally thin and light, yet durable enough to stand up to the rigors of serious everyday use. The Marbel Board deck design is patented and the unique production technology that makes it so light is closely guarded. The boards provide a nice, smooth ride while protecting the critical electronics and battery cells encased inside the deck. Even after a year on the market, Marbel is still the only board with an upward facing battery indicator so riders can see how much battery range they have left in real-time.

Simple Riding Experience
Our riders have the option of controlling their board with the wireless bluetooth capacitive touch remote or with the MyMarbel mobile App for iOS and Android. The bluetooth remote uses the world's longest range BLE chip making radio interference almost impossible. The remote is also incredibly durable and thin as an iPhone with absolutely zero moving parts.  These options give our riders a consistent user experience, whether they choose to control their board with the remote or directly via their smartphone.

Our riders don’t need to shift their balance or move their feet once they get moving on the Marbel Board.  The ride experience is similar to snowboarding or surfing, making it significantly easier to ride than a regular skateboard.

Ultimate Portability  
Having the lightest hardware in the industry is great for many reasons, like better handling and acceleration. But it also delivers unmatched portability. Weighing 5lbs less than our nearest competitors, riders can carry Marbel boards into a classroom, through the lobby of the office, up stairwells to their apartment, on a bus, on a train, or even aboard an airplane. 

Powerful - Single and Twin Drives
An incredibly durable 63mm motor provides unparalleled climbing ability up to a 35% grade. Our electronics are completely integrated into one complete circuit.  A feat no other electric skateboard alternative has been able to achieve.

Replaceable & Upgradeable  
With user replaceable designs, we have the ability to ship any replacements to our customers directly. Without requiring them to send the board back to our shop, they can switch almost every part out in less than 15 minutes. Our customers also have the option of upgrading to larger battery capacities and making personal customizations to their Marbel board.

Wheel Options
The Marbel Board sends out 52 data points per second. This makes it possible to gauge motor, battery, and electronics temperatures.  It also allows us to measure current draw, motor rpm, among other metrics. Sensors inside the rider’s phone make it possible to monitor additional information, like latitude, longitude, elevation, signal strength, and weather.

Smart
The Marbel Board sends out 52 data points per second. This makes it possible to gauge motor, battery, and electronics temperatures.  It also allows us to measure current draw, motor rpm, among other metrics. Sensors inside the rider’s phone make it possible to monitor additional information, like latitude, longitude, elevation, signal strength, and weather.

All of this data is organized and securely stored in the MyMarbel platform, which customers can access from their computer, smartphone, or even a tablet. With an average of 135,000 data points per ride, we’re able to work directly with the customer to diagnose and troubleshoot issues much faster, regardless of their geographical location. We also have the ability to wirelessly push firmware updates to the customer’s board or remote, ensuring continual improvement in their user experience.

The MyMarbel App
Our board settings are designed to be completely customizable through the MyMarbel App. This enables customers to update firmware and personalize their board settings and riding experience to match their own individual preferences.

 

Adjustable Settings
Customers are able to access all of this information right from their smartphone, computer, tablet, and other devices to compare rides with others in the Marbel community.  They also have access to customer support through the MyMarbel App.  Our riders now have the ability to gain insight into nearly every detail of their ride.

MyMarbel Platform

We’ve developed a secure database system called MyMarbel to track all of our company’s data points. MyMarbel collects data from both internal and external applications specifically designed on our unique REST API. Powerful analytics track trends within the company, our partners, and how our products are used.

Going the Distance

With more and more people living and relocating to major cities, modern urbanization is expanding at a rapid fire pace.

In 2014, approximately 81% of the total US population lived in cities. 

High-density cities can be great places to live and work with all their convinces at your finger tips.  However, they can make it tough to get around from place to place due to high traffic congestion, limited parking availability, traffic, higher energy consumption, greater gas dependency, and the resulting negative environmental impact. 

These factors and more can make urban transportation slower, more expensive, and overall not fun for the 128.3 million daily commuters in the US.

And for the 65 million people who travel less than 10 miles to reach their destinations, these travel woes hardly make the trip seem worth all the trouble. 

Today’s commuters are turning to a number of solutions that have emerged in the electric-based, intermodal transportation space. Technological breakthroughs in electric motors and batteries have paved the way for innovative, alternative transportation products such as electric bicycles, the Segway, electric scooters, and electric skateboards.  Many people are continuing to  adopt these solutions to meet their daily commuting needs.

But even many of these products come with their own shortcomings. While electric bikes are becoming increasingly popular, consumers are still left dealing with storage and portability issues. 

Electric skateboards are significantly smaller and more easily transported than other bulkier options. Where it might not be feasible to lug a 28 pound Ninebot Mini Segway or a 35 pound Urb-E folding scooter through a train station or up the office stairs, a 10 pound electric skateboard, on the other hand, is.

Matt Belcher  |  Founder & CEO | A lifelong engineer and entrepreneur, Matt has over ten years experience in development, design, and manufacturing composite products from the ground up.  He has a background in Material Sciences and Engineering specializing in composite design from Purdue University. Matt founded his first company with friends in 2004 creating custom electronics accessories out of carbon fiber.  He has an intense dedication to sustainability, technology, and good design. 

Kevin Doran  |  CMO | Kevin has a background in Finance and Marketing from The University of Tampa. Through the leverage of big data, he works to bridge together both marketing and finance, pushing Marbel to achieve profitable and sustainable growth in the digital age economy. Kevin has a keen focus on efficient ways to drive revenue growth, increase customer acquisition, and expand brand awareness in the millennial marketplace. He is proficient in HTML & CSS and well-versed in a multitude of other design/software development platforms allowing for quick iterations and implementations.
 

Zane Hranac  |  Build Lead | Zane comes to us from Golden, CO and has his BS in Organic Chemistry from The University of Tampa. He has been longboarding for almost 20 years. At Marbel he leads our production and assembly teams, while also combining his Chemistry background with his knowledge and skill in longboarding to help select optimal battery chemistries and cell manufacturers that fit our needs as we continue to grow.
