MediQuip: Fast Facts

MediQuip is a pre-clinical medical technology company responsible for the development of the Breathing Room™ System: the world’s first institutional tube dispensing & retraction system that helps greatly reduce slips, trips, falls, and contamination in medical settings.

Our solution keeps patients & providers safe by managing excess tubing in medical settings in an easy-to-use remote-controlled manner.  The result is not only fewer accidents, but better patient mobility and greatly reduced costs for healthcare companies.

KEY TRACTION

Too Much Slack

When it comes to medical equipment, tubing isn’t the first thing that comes to mind - but its use is nonetheless widespread in healthcare.  Particularly in the administration of O2, other biologics, and clinical infusions.

However, tubing’s pervasive presence in medical settings creates a serious problem of excess.  Having too much extra tubing around creates safety issues in 2 specific areas:

With the Baby Boomer generation aging and the number of people with chronic diseases steadily rising, there’s never been a more pressing need to “tie up loose ends” and make every aspect of healthcare safer.  It’s time to solve the tubing dilemma & save lives!

Cutting Out Excess Tubing

Introducing the Breathing Room™ System (BRS) by MediQuip: an FDA Class 1 & 2 remote-controlled retractable medical tubing device that’s been proven to significantly reduce cross contamination, patient entanglement, and STFs in medical settings.

The BRS is designed for the millions of patients that require the use of tubing across a variety of facilities - including inpatient, SNIFs, assisted living, and even home healthcare for.  Its groundbreaking technology serves them and employees in these 2 primary ways:

Featuring state-of-the-art ergonomic design and the best medical grade materials, patient safety & mobility are no longer mutually exclusive thanks to the BRS.  Actually, it’s the only medical device of it’s kind in the world - and is supported with a patent pending.

Our team possesses the versatile expertise required to develop medical devices that save hundreds of thousands of lives while expediting recovery for millions - which lowers costs across the board for healthcare companies.  The BRS is just the first step!

All About the BRS

The BRS’s ability to deliver both active health management and risk aversion in one patent pending design is what makes it truly unique.  It relies on two main parts:

These two elements work seamlessly together to not only mitigate in-room accidents - but also increase patient mobility & freedom of movement at the same time.  No more dealing with recovery slowdowns because a jumbled mess of tubes is in your way.

Here are just a handful more of the many features & benefits the BRS delivers to the medical world:

  • Designed with the highest medical grade contamination-resistant polymer to optimize durability & portability
  • Designed with a medical tubing cartridge reel sustainability program that provides built-in environmental efficiency
  • Is the only system that relies on a computer chip, sensor, and motor setup rather than a spool system or spring action, which wear out
  • Available in single and dual cartridge models to serve specific patient populations
  • Also increases safety & mobility for healthcare employees
  • Is the only electric/battery-powered system with an electronic eye and remote
  • Cartridges are scanned like hospital bracelets, which helps keep tubes off the floor using tension
  • Is designed for versatile use in both hospital systems and operating rooms

Meet Our Innovators

The BRS was invented by MediQuip Founder Carolyn Holton Ethridge.  Carolyn’s light bulb moment came as a direct result of her own negative experiences with oxygen & IV therapy - which she quickly set out to rectify after consulting with healthcare providers.

An accomplished artist & designer, Carolyn remains the visionary leader of our company and is now joined by the following talented individuals on the MediQuip team:

Randy Carpenter | Has amassed top-level corporate and entrepreneurial experience during his 35-year career.  Developed and implemented successful new ventures for global leaders like Reebok, while building and exiting from 3 companies of his own.

Eric Simon | Our resident Bio-Engineer has built up an impressive skill set during his 4-decade career in med-tech - ranging from medical device design and prototyping to testing and manufacturing.  Was on the team that developed the Jarvik-7 artificial heart.

Sean Ritchie | Formerly in-house counsel for a biotech company with a focus on medical device regulation, and is now a key advisor for us.  Certified in neurophysiological introperative monitoring, and highly skilled in monitoring somatosensory responses
