Who would prefer to conserve and rebuild, rather than tossing an entire phone simply because the screen broke. A consumer culture that would prefer the freedom and flexibility of building the perfect phone for them, over waiting in line to become yet another carrier of a mass-produced phone made to suit everyone and failing to meet the needs of anyone.

Phonebloks is a modular phone that allows the user to replace individual components of the phone -- called "bloks" -- as necessary. Phonebloks not only allows for the conservation of perfectly good phone components, it also gives users the flexibility to choose the elements that best suit their purposes. 

The online Blokstore will be a destination for brands to sell Bloks, and for users to search, buy and review Bloks. This marketplace will allow users to seek out the brands they love and explore new developments, building their ideal phone and contributing their personal experiences to the continued improvement of Blok innovation.

On September 10th, 2013, Netherlands-based designer Dave Hakkens posted the video for Phonebloks to crowdspeaking site Thunderclap.it. His initial goal of raising 500 supporters willing to spread the word of his idea was blown out of the water: soon, he had 10,000, then 50,000, then 100,000....

On October 29th, 908,000 people shouted from the virtual rooftops that they wanted a phone worth keeping. Over 360,000,000 people around the world saw this message, growing Phonebloks' reach exponentially in a matter of seconds.
