Quick Pitch

Tatum’s Sliding Pontoons aims to provide “Fun for All!” by enabling children and people with mobility impairment to have full access to the double slide pontoon. We believe that the world should be barrier free, so that persons, especially children in wheelchairs, can have full access to exciting and fun recreational activities while being safe.

Product/Service Details

Tatum’s Sliding Pontoon will have state of the art customized double slide pontoons that are at least 21’. They will seat 8-10 people comfortably.  Unique to our pontoon will be a lift that will transport the children safely from the water to the top deck.  We are currently working with a manufacturer that specializes in making lifts for persons with mobility impairment in and out of boats and pools.  Additionally, there will be two slides on the pontoon.  One will be our customized slide to ensure the safety of persons and children with mobility impairment.  The other slide will be a state-of-the-art drop slide designed to maximize fun.

Traction & Accomplishments

There is no other boat or service like this on the market.  Children and persons with mobility impairment have no way to enjoy water slides.  Tatum's Sliding Pontoon and its "waterpark on a boat" would be the first of its kind, offering children and persons with mobility impairment the opportunity to enjoy this fun and exciting recreational opportunity.  This social enterprise can be enjoyed by children and adults; appealing to wounded veterans and other adults who are mobility impaired.  Tatum's Sliding Pontoons truly seeks to create a barrier free world and provide FUN for ALL!

How We're Different

The idea to start Tatum’s Sliding Pontoons was borne of both passion and need.  My son Tatum, LOVES all things water and especially waterslides.  Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I would frequently take him to both indoor and outdoor waterparks so that he could enjoy one of his favorite things.  I realized that when he was sliding, he was just like every other kid and that’s what he loved.  It became my mission to take him as frequently as possible.  Once the pandemic hit, waterparks and places with large groups of people became threats to his health. While trying to find a similar activity, I found a double slide pontoon for rent.  I was overjoyed that Tatum would be able to slide once again and it was a socially distanced activity that would keep him safe.

Getting him up the ladder was no small feat and I realized that it was only a matter of time before his size would preclude this activity. The joy he has when sliding is really unparalleled, and I realized I needed to come up with a way for him to continue to enjoy this activity and that is how Tatum’s Sliding Pontoon was conceived.  I needed a way to get him to the top of the slide and while I was at it, I decided to design a slide that would be even safer for persons with mobility impairment.  In formulating this idea, I wanted all children who have mobility impairment to be able to experience Tatum’s Sliding Pontoon.  There are so few direct recreational services available for children with mobility impairment that I wanted to fill that void and make sure we were providing “Fun for ALL!”

Tatum Evans - Inspiration

Extraordinary kid living an Extraordinary Life

Tatum is nine year old boy who loves adventure and seeks thrill. If it were possible, he would ride the tallest and fastest waterslide at every water park he went too. Unfortunately, none of the water parks have lifts or a means for him to get to the top of the slide. Tatum has cerebral palsy, spastic quadriplegia and uses a wheelchair. He uses a communication device and loves entertaining those around him by telling jokes on his Tobii. His favorite show is Henry Danger and he is a member of the BeyHive and listens to Beyoncé daily!! He hopes that other children will enjoy sliding and riding on the pontoon as much as he does.
